Offense

This Offense as a whole is one of my favorite and most complete rosters, in my opinion, in the league. The only question I have is with the OL depth but Coleman Shelton or Beaux Limmer can play a backup IOL role (depending on who wins the job) and DJ Humphries is playable as a swing T. I would like to see them add one more body to fully round out the room though.

The depth at WR from the starters (Adams, Nacua, and Atwell) to the rotational players (Whittington, Mumpfield, and Smith) is outstanding. Not only is the talent here really really good but they diversified their looks by letting Cooper Kupp go and adding Davante Adams. Adam’s gives them someone that can line up at X and dominate there which will allow them to move Puka around wherever they’d like. Not only does this free up Puca it also will allow Sean McVay to come out in less dense formations and spread the field more effectively because he now has someone that can line up and win at X consistently. Which just adds another wrinkle to an already incredibly diverse offensive scheme. Then you add on the TE room which includes Tyler Higbee, rookie Terrance Ferguson (Oregon), and Colby Parkinson which all guys I trust and think will play significant roles within this offense.

The QB room is also phenomenal with of course Matthew Stafford but even Jimmy Garoppolo can play serviceably for a handful of games within this scheme.

The RB room having Kyren Williams, Blake Corum, and now rookie Jarquez Hunter (Auburn) added into the fold is absolutely outstanding and will allow Sean McVay to rotate guys in and not really sacrifice production or skill set.

Defense

This front seven they’ve built in LA has one of the highest ceilings in the league in my opinion. You have Jared Verse, Byron Young, Nick Hampton, and now rookie Josaiah Stewart (Michigan)off the edge with Kobie Turner, Braden Fiske, and adding in Poona Ford at NT along the interior. If there’s any criticism I had it would be that I would like to see them add one more guy along the interior even though I like Ty Hamilton (Ohio State) along with Tyler Davis and Desjuan Johnson being playable adding one more guy at IDL could protect them from any injuries they may face.

I really like their S room with Kam Curl and Kamren Kinchens but the aside from Quentin Lake as their NB the CB room is a bit concerning to me. Ahkello Witherspoon in my opinion is not a starting level CB and Darious Williams is a league average player but I’m really not confident in either of those guys to be high level or even quality starters at this point in their careers. What makes this an even tougher situation is the lack of quality depth or upside with young players. Unless you feel really good about Cobie Durant finally taking a step and moving outside or Emmanuel Forbes putting on weight and well.. actually being able to cover someone and just flat out being a better player at this point the prospects of the depth here doesn’t really provide them really any options to upgrade within their roster.

The ILB room while not being super high level I think they’ll be able to get away with these guys on the field and be fine. Nate Landman, Omar Speights, and Troy Reeder are serviceable players but I think Speights has a chance to be a really solid player and has another level to him than Landman and Reeder have had throughout their careers. I also really like their young picks/UDFAs in Chris Paul Jr (Ole Miss) and Sean Dolac (Buffalo) and I think they’ll have a real chance to take spots from Landman and Reeder this coming year.

The Rams cut Chris Paul Jr today and he later signed with the Seahawks practice squad. I’m not sure if there was some off the field/locker room issues but I thought he earned a spot and it looks like the Seahawks may have just benefited from the Rams moving on from ILBs once again.

Overview

  • This roster has one of the highest ceilings in the league to me with quality starters, pro bowlers, and even all pros across the board. You pair that with certain positional rooms having some of the best depth in the league and Sean McVay at HC you have a roster that can absolutely make a run in the playoffs and in my opinion have a real shot at a Super Bowl this year. With that being said it’s not all perfect and there’s still spots, especially defensively, that worry me and they’ll certainly be counting other parts of their team to step up and hide some of the flaws they’ll inevitably have at spots like CB, in my opinion. The goal should be to take this division and at least make it to the NFC championship game.
