  • Shades of Jaire Alexander

While Avieon may lack the textbook technique and clean tape that his brother (Falcons star CB, AJ Terrell) had coming out of Clemson he shines in his own exciting way. Terrell is an aggressive gambler that’s always looking for the big play and/or opportunity to create a turnover. A twitchy athlete that flashes special cover skills in both man and zone but needs some refinement in consistency with his footwork and technique overall. If he gets the proper coaching and is given a defined role (preferably in the slot) while he comes along within the scheme I believe he can be an All Pro within his rookie contract.

  • Terrell is coming off a rough offseason as he’s been dealing with a hamstring injury that’s kept him from performing at the combine or his pro day. While there was hope we could finally see some athletic testing results along with some drill work from him at a private workout following the Clemson Pro Day Terrell once again dealt with a nagging issue with his hamstring. This led to some saying he timed around 4.60 on his 40yd dash which in my opinion does not show up on film and should be taken lightly as that time is very concerning for a CB.

Positives

  • Plus athlete on tape – Not an elite guy that shocks you when watching him but more than enough to play in the league.
  • Flashes really special coverage skills in man whether he’s playing on or off the line.
  • His instincts in zone and the run/screen games really pop off the screen despite leading to him leaving his assignment at times.
  • Plays with a real edge and will let you know when he makes a play, even if it’s just shedding a block in the run game.

Negatives

  • Despite his lack of size he has power when he connects on his hits but consistency with form and even willingness to tackle hold him back from being a plus as a tackler.
  • Feet can be inconsistent, flat, and/or choppy at times, especially off the line.
  • Lack of strength and balance at the top of routes and catch point pops up on film more than you’d like.
  • Injury history and thin frame leave cause for concern at next level.

You Decide

  • Gambler – Will fly off the edge when he doesn’t have an immediate threat to him in the passing game and/or on play action when defending the flat.

Goes for the ball nearly every time he’s attempting to make a tackle which does pay off with fumbles but also get him dragged for extra yards or thrown off the tackle completely.

  • Jittery – Twitchy guy that plays fast and aggressive which leads to inconsistency in technique.

Needs to clean up and/or utilize his technique more to make his game more consistent snap to snap but when it’s all put together it’s beautiful to watch.
